Ian McArthur married his wife Maggie in 1986 and raised four children Matt, Becky and twins Beth and Dan. He worked for nearly thirty years in the IT industry. His life changed dramatically in his forties after suffering from a severe bout of depression and a whiplash injury.
Whilst undergoing traditional treatments for his injury such as physiotherapy, he experienced increased sensations in the body along with a peaceful and calm state. This led him to try alternative remedies for his injury such as reiki and acupuncture. Within minutes of the reiki and acupuncture starting Ian experienced the same if not stronger sense of peace and calmness. When he asked what was happening, Ian was told was “You are probably experiencing a meditative state of some sort”. This reply fired an immediate curiosity about meditation and a need within to find out more.
Within months, Ian met a local teacher Helen Hamilton and started to follow her teachings as well as meditating on a daily basis. He also started to read books and listen online to other teachers such as Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Mooji and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. He has attended silent retreats with Adyashanti and Helen.
With Helen’s continued support, this led to a deeper sense of peace and realisations about his True Nature.
Ian now teaches meditation, holding weekly groups at his home in the North of England; along with one to one sessions in people’s homes. With the hope that other people can find peace themselves. “Simply Meditate” is his first book.
