Jessie L. Moore

JESSIE L. MOORE, PhD, is director of the Center for Engaged Learning and professor of English: Professional Writing & Rhetoric at Elon University.

Jessie leads planning, implementation, and assessment of the Center’s research seminars, which support multi-institutional inquiry on high-impact pedagogies and other focused engaged learning topics. Her recent research examines engaged learning practices (including high-impact pedagogies), transfer of writing knowledge and practices, multi-institutional research and collaborative inquiry, writing residencies for faculty writers, and the writing lives of university students.

Jessie is the author of Key Practices for Fostering Engaged Learning: A Guide for Faculty and Staff (Stylus, under contract) and co-editor of Cultivating Capstones: Designing High-Quality Culminating Experiences for Student Learning (with Caroline J. Ketcham and Anthony G. Weaver, Stylus, under contract), Writing Beyond the University: Preparing Lifelong Learners for Lifewide Writing (with Julia Bleakney and Paula Rosinski, 2022, CEL Open Access), Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research (with Maureen Vandermaas-Peeler and Paul Miller, CUR, 2018), Understanding Writing Transfer: Implications for Transformative Student Learning in Higher Education (with Randy Bass, Stylus, 2017), and Critical Transitions: Writing and the Question of Transfer (with Chris Anson, The WAC Clearinghouse and University Press of Colorado, 2016). Her work has appeared in Computers and Composition, Composition Forum, Composition Studies, International Journal for Academic Development, Journal of Faculty Development, Journal of Second Language Writing, Journal on Centers for Teaching & Learning, TESOL Journal, WPA: Writing Program Administration, Written Communication, and in edited collections. In 2021, Jessie received Elon University’s Distinguished Scholar Award.
