J. M. Walsh

J.M. Walsh has authored three Buddhist-themed titles. The most recent is 'Buddhism as I Heard It' (2023). Through dialogue, this carefully researched work brings the tradition's profound messages to life. An earlier work, ‘Dial In: Soka Buddhism on the Religious Spectrum’ (2018), takes a historical-comparative approach to eight major faiths. It highlights Buddhism’s connections to and commonalities with other traditions, while also highlighting its distinctive features. Walsh has practiced Mahayana Buddhism for over five decades in the US and Brazil. He’s participated in multiple exchanges in Japan, has visited traditional sites in India, China, and Thailand, and has presented at interfaith conferences. Walsh also authored a book on seventeenth century Atlantic cultural history that includes a translation of an eyewitness account of the Dutch invasion of Brazil, titled ‘Liberty’s Triumph Through the Lens of Dutch Brazil’ (2020). A native of Seattle with undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Washington, Walsh went on to work as a business executive in Southern California, where he currently resides.
