In 2022, I was invited to write three novels by Sapere Books after I had entered a writing competition staged by that publisher. The novels were to be in the historical fiction genre, based on RAF operations during World War Two. As a person with both an interest and experience in aviation, I was pleased to undertake that task, and the John Noble Fighter Ace series, being published through 2025, followed.
The three novels of the series follow the life and times of a World War Two RAF Spitfire pilot, John Noble. While the novels are works of fiction, the stories told are inspired by a real person, and some of the events described did occur. Many of John Noble’s aerial actions were taken directly from the logbook of the pilot on whom the series is based.
The novels cover John’s time at Dunkirk (Spitfires Rising), during the Battle of Britain (Defying the Odds), and finally at Singapore before he returns to the UK (Despair and Triumph).
At the end of the third book, Despair and Triumph, due to be published on 14 November, I will reveal the identity of the RAF Spitfire pilot who flew many of the missions described in the series, and who inspired me to write the novels.
