Ben Bland

Ben has just published his first book, Generation HK: Seeking Identity in China's Shadow, which examines the deepening tensions between Hong Kong and Beijing through the lens of young people and generational change.

Currently the South China correspondent for the Financial Times, he has reported across Asia for nearly a decade and was previously based in Jakarta, Hanoi and Singapore.

Ben has been studying East and Southeast Asia since 2001, when he travelled to Vietnam as a volunteer English teacher. He has a History degree from the University of Cambridge and a Masters in Southeast Asian Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.
