Imelda Rose Sobiloff

Imelda Rose Sobiloff is a first-time author of children's book Martina Ballerina. The story is about a little girl who loves to dance and does so, joyously and frequently in all kinds of settings. It seems that nothing can dampen Martina's enthusiasm--until she learns she is passed over for a covetous part in a local performance.

The manuscript for this story was written many years prior to publication in 2017. It won an award and came close to being published but was ultimately eclipsed by Angelina Ballerina. Knowing that there was no room in the 1989 market for two ballerina books, she tossed her manuscript aside and forgot about it.

Nearly thirty years later, Imelda's adult children honored her for her sixtieth birthday by presenting her with her own manuscript in a self-published format, just a click away from being on the market. Imelda was so touched by their thoughtfulness that she didn't click. Instead, she polished and improved the work with the aid of an illustrator and publisher. This book is Imelda's way of thanking her children and loved ones with something they can all feel proud of.

Imelda's career in journalism, editing and writing began in television news, and included magazine business journalism, technology market reporting, women's magazine editing, freelance writing, and currently movie script analysis. Her dance experience ranges from tap to modern, and though she no longer studies, she continues to love to dance. Her wish to her young readers: dance joyfully.
