Phil Gardner

Phil Gardner began programming in 1981 using BASIC on a Sinclair ZX81 microcomputer, which would eventually lead him to study Computer Science at the University of Exeter and his first introduction to the UNIX operating-system.

After graduating he went on to create analytical and data-visualisation software for the oil and gas exploration industries, crafting thousands of lines of C++ source-code. This software is now used worldwide by exploration companies and lives on through the efforts of a whole team of programmers. He has also produced commercial software for visualising ecological and geographical data.

A member of the Computing At School subject association since 2009, he has contributed many resources for teachers to use in their classrooms. He also contributed and edited topics for the BBC Bite Size Computing website.
