Stella von Troil was born in Finland in 1963, she spent part of her early childhood in Germany where she first discovered her love for sports, especially tennis. She returned to her native Finland and finished high school, after which she went to the US for her undergraduate studies on a tennis scholarship. She studied medicine in Germany and thereafter returned to the US to complete her residency. She has settled in Florida and has become a US citizen. She translated her grandmother's WW II diary from the original language Swedish to English in order to help educate current and future generations outside Scandinavia about the reality of war, particularly how it effects the home front, not just the soldiers on the front lines. She learned discipline through her athletic career and scientific and rational thinking through her education, this has helped her analyze her grandmother's diary and how it relates to our current world of fake news and video games, to shortcomings in healthcare and the threat of war and terrorism.
