Jeffrey Humpherys

Jeff received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Indiana University in 2002 and was a postdoc at The Ohio State University from 2002-2005, before joining the mathematics faculty at Brigham Young University in 2005-2017.  While at BYU, he published papers in partial differential equations, operations research, fluid dynamics, combustion theory, plasma physics, statistical estimation theory, applied probability, numerical analysis, dynamical systems theory, machine learning, and healthcare analytics.

Jeff also received an NSF CAREER Award for his research and educational achievements, as well as BYU's Young Scholar Award.

During 2017-2025, Jeff was in industry, where he served in three executive roles in healthcare and health devices (UnitedHealth Group, Owlet Baby Care, and Harbor Health).  During COVID-19, Jeff also served as research faculty in the University of Utah School of Medicine in the division of Epidemiology, Department of Internal Medicine.

In 2025, Jeff returned to academia joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Missouri S&T as the Kummer Professor of Data Science.

Jeff has also served as a technical and scientific consultant for several companies, particularly businesses specializing in information technology, financial services, drug discovery and pharma, healthcare, digital health, retail, and manufacturing.
