John Lever has an interdisciplinary background in sociology, human geography and management. His work primarily focusses on food, religion and migration. John is joint author of Halal Matters: Islam, Politics and Markets in Global Perspective (Routledge 2015); Labour, Mobility and Temporary Migration: A Comparative Study of Polish Migration to Wales (University of Wales Press 2017); Religion, Regulation, Consumption: Globalising Kosher and Halal Markets (Manchester University Press 2018); and Kosher and Halal Business Compliance (Routledge 2018). John is also a fellow of the Norbert Elias Foundation. His latest book is the edited collection, Towards an Eliasian Understanding of Food in the 21st Century: Established Foundations and New Directions (Palgrave MacMillan, 2024).
