Sam Knowles is a data storyteller. His purpose is to help organisations make smarter use of data - in the questions they ask, the insights they surface and articulate, and the stories they tell. This allows them talk and sound like people.
A prolific writer, blogger, and accomplished presenter, Sam is a sought-after speaker at conferences, events, and on podcasts. He is the co-founder and regular co-host of the Small Data Forum podcast (www.smalldataforum.com).
He is the author of the 'Using Data Smarter' trilogy of books from Routledge. This includes: the best-selling 'Narrative by Numbers: How to Tell Powerful & Purposeful Stories with Data' (2018, see www.narrativebynumbers.com); the critically-acclaimed 'How To Be Insightful: Unlocking the Superpower that Drives Innovation' (2020, see. www.HowToBeInsightful.com), and 'Asking Smarter Questions: How To Be an Agent of Insight' (August 2022).
Sam holds a doctorate in Experimental Psychology, a source of both his understanding of human motivation and behaviour and his love of telling stories with data. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts and the Professional Speaking Association.
He lives with his family in Lewes, East Sussex, in the South of England.
