Lisa Marino

Lisa Marino has always been an avid reader and bookworm. She started her education career as a middle school Spanish teacher and then English teacher for over 20 years hoping to bring books to life for her students and share the joy of reading.

Her hobby of training her dogs to be therapy animals led to a second career as a positive reinforcement dog trainer. In 2012, she established Head of the Class Dog Training, teaching people how to teach their dogs.

She is still involved with pet therapy; volunteering with her dogs for therapy visits to hospitals, schools, assisted living facilities and libraries, and in crisis situations. In her visits with students of all ages, but particularly younger children, she recognized how students respond enthusiastically to the dogs and enjoy their reading practice more when the dogs are involved.

Writing children's books based on her dogs' experiences at their visits, and using the dogs to teach lessons to the children the dogs meet seemed a natural progression from reader, teacher, trainer to author.
