Cedric de Coning

Cedric de Coning is a Research Professor at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), where he co-directs the NUPI Center for UN and Global Governance. Cedric is also a Senior Advisor for ACCORD. He holds a PhD on the application of complexity theory to peace studies from the Department of Philosophy at the University of Stellenbosch. His research makes use of complexity theory to study how social-ecological systems adapts under pressure, including from climate change, and what the implications are for international peace and security. He is a former South African diplomat and UN peacekeeper, and he has served in various advisory roles for the African Union and United Nations, including on the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board for the UN Peacebuilding Fund.
