Joe Spiller

Joe Spiller was born in 1943, in the coal mining region of Southern Illinois. His father, a World War II US Navy veteran worked in the mines, as did his Grandfather, a World War I US Army Veteran. At the age of 10, Joe and his two brothers lost their Mother to cancer. Soon after turning 18 Joe enlisted in the US Air Force. The death of his Mother and his military service were defining times in his life. Joe's career followed a diverse path in the propane industry working in transportation, marketing, management and vocational training. The joys of writing for Joe started as the joy of reading. With the addition of grandchildren in his life there was a consistent request; "Grandpa, tell us a story." As they grew older, the request became, 'write us a story' and eventually, "Grandpa, will you write me a novel?" And he did. Always as a 'legacy-gift' to those who asked. Now, fully retired, Joe pursues self-publishing as a hobby. Success as a writer for Joe will not be measured by units sold but rather by good stories told with drama and characters that readers will remember long after the book is closed.
