Prasenjit K. Basu is an economist and historian based in Singapore. His book, "Asia Reborn", won the Tata Literature Live! First Book Award (non-fiction) for 2018.
He was chief economist for SE Asia & India at Credit Suisse First Boston (1998-2003), Chief Asia Economist at Daiwa Securities (2007-2012), the first Chief Economist and co-head of research at Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund), global research head at the Maybank group, and has held senior research positions at Wharton Econometrics (head of the Asia Service), Macquarie Securities and UBS. He runs a Singapore-based economics consultancy, and is an adjunct professor at ESSEC Asia Pacific Business School. He has previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania and the SP Jain School of Global Management (Singapore & Dubai). After schooling at St. Paul's (Darjeeling), he obtained a BA(Hons) in Economics at St Stephen's College, Delhi, and dual Master's degrees in International Relations and Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
Prasenjit K. Basu is the president of Singapore's Tagore Society (2003-present) and of the India Club-Singapore. He has been a regular commentator on Asia's economies, markets and politics on the BBC, CNBC, Channel News Asia, CNN, NDTV-Profit, Zee Business, Bloomberg TV, etc, and has written Op-Ed/Comment articles for the Financial Times, New York Times, Business Times (Singapore), The Star (Malaysia), New Straits Times, Economic Times, India Today, The Statesman and Asian Age.
