Zalman Nelson, LMSW is a psychotherapist in private practice in Tsfat, Israel and works remotely with clients around the world. He earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work at Wurzweiler School of Social Work (Yeshiva University, 2005). His early training focused on addictions and codependence, as he spent three years working with at-risk teens and their families in Brooklyn, NY. Zalman is the mental health expert on Chabad.org's “Ask the Rabbi” team, and serves as the Social Worker for Chabad’s Yeshivat Tzeirei HaShluchim in Tsfat.
In addition to his work as a therapist, he is an experienced writer, editor, and translator. Currently, he’s completing his third Hebrew book (including the acclaimed, GPS for the Soul, which guides its readers through the psychologically revolutionary Chassidic masterpiece, The Tanya). He serves as the editor of a project translating the pastoral letters of the Lubavitcher Rebbe (Igrot Kodesh). Zalman also teaches Tanya to women at Machon Alta Institute in Tsfat, distilling its lofty psychological concepts into practical knowledge.
Zalman’s diverse practice includes face-to-face and online clientele including men, women and children. He has significant experience with observant Jews and the community at-large. He currently utilizes Talkspace.com (a therapeutic text and audio messaging service) in his private practice, and continues to be a pioneer in the use of digital approaches to delivering professional therapy. His approach is a unique and effective blend of solution-focused techniques, exploration of mental and emotional processes, provision of empowering tools, and integration of Jewish wisdom’s guidance for life. His deep care and concern for clients, coupled with a strong belief in the ability to grow, forges his positive healing and therapeutic relationships.
