Roy J Beckemeyer

Roy Beckemeyer is an award-winning poet and editor. His first poetry book, Music I Once Could Dance To (Coal City Press, 2014), was recognized as a Kansas Notable Book for 2015. Wichita Eagle Book Page Editor Arlice Davenport, in his review of Music I Once Could Dance To, wrote: "What stands out in these rich, resonant poems is the care of craft. With a crisp lexicon and vibrant images…He remains judicious in his subject matter and precise in his perceptions…At his best, Beckemeyer rises to aesthetic heights that reflect the rich heritage of the Plains, taking much of his inspiration from Kansas' foremost poet, William Stafford."

A retired aeronautical engineer who worked nearly 30 years for Boeing, Beckemeyer is also the author of many scientific journal articles and he served as editor of two scientific journals.

Beckemeyer grew up in Illinois and has lived most of his life in Kansas. He and his wife have traveled extensively and visited every continent. His writing reflects both his love of language and his wide-ranging interests.
