Ruth Kanagy was born in Tokyo and grew up on both sides of the Pacific. She taught Japanese, ESL, and linguistics in the U.S. and Japan, then switched gears to become a bicycle travel consultant with Bike Friday in Oregon. In 2006 she started Japan Cycle Tours to introduce people to the joys of encountering another culture on two wheels.
Ruth is the author of "Moon Living Abroad: Japan" (4th edition, 2017, Avalon Travel Publishers). She also published her mother's adventure to California as a young teen: "Apple Dumpling: Diary of My Great Trip West in a Trotwood Trailer, 1937-38." She is currently working on a memoir, "Between Worlds: Searching for the Home of My Heart." You can find her at home in Pennsylvania, hiking, biking, gardening with native plants, tutoring Japanese, and learning Pennsylvania Deitsch.
