Jim Farrell

Jim Farrell was born in the Bronx, NY in 1956. He grew up in the South Bronx during the 1960s and 70s as a shy Irish-American kid. He escaped the rowdy streets of New York City and served his country by joining the army in 1974. He served as a Military Policeman at Fort Lewis, WA and then Camp Ames, South Korea, before returning home to the United States. As soon as he arrived back in the homeland, Jim used the G.I. Bill to get his education. In 1983 he graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from SUNY Binghamton. Jim married Monica Farrell, and the two have been happily together since meeting at the YMCA on Hillside Avenue in Queens. As an active couple, the two have played countless rounds of tennis and golf together. They most enjoy spending time with their golden retriever, Piper.

Jim held many successful positions as a CFO before co-founding his company, Single Throw Inc., with his best friend and business partner Larry Bailin. Today this digital marketing agency employs more than 30 people. A traditional numbers person, Jim never put pen to paper to write, until he was moved so deeply by the significant discovery of his Uncle Matty’s D-Day rifle from WW II. He has reached deeply into his family’s history and memorabilia to recreate as much of his Uncle’s life as possible. This has turned into an incredible opportunity for Jim to explore his past. His story is unique, yet those who grew up in the same era can completely relate.

The journey to bring Uncle Matty’s D-Day M1 Garand home started for Jim at Saint Jerome’s Church in the South Bronx and took him and his wife on trips to Normandy, Nottingham, 508th PIR reunions, Pentagon, and much more. Jim’s journey concluded (For the Moment) by arranging the first annual mass for Uncle Matty at Saint Jerome’s Church on June 4, 2017.
