Dr. Peter W. Tuerk is a clinical psychologist who specializes in evidence-based treatments, training, and research related to PTSD services, and the integration of technology into clinical care. He earned his doctorate at the University of Virginia, and is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Tuerk serves as Section Chief of the PTSD Clinical and Telehealth programs at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, an innovative clinic expanding the delivery of evidence-based care locally and to associate facilities in three states via telehealth technologies. He conducts research and clinical trials focused on the augmentation of evidence based treatments, serving as Principal Investigator on VA, DoD, and NIH research awards. Dr. Tuerk serves as a PTSD clinical trainer in national VA initiatives, as well as in military, community health, and post-disaster settings. He chaired the National Strategy Taskforce for Evidence Based PTSD Telehealth, helping to layout the groundwork and vision for regional telehealth hubs, and serves as editor of Springer International’s Behavioral Telehealth Series. He has served as a mental health consultant internationally on Japanese and Australian Government funded projects and was recently named a Top 100 producer in the U.S. Purpose Economy for scientific and clinical contributions. Dr. Tuerk is the recipient of VA’s highest commendation, the Olin E. Teague Award for Outstanding Career Achievement in the Rehabilitation of War-Injured Veterans. Currently, he is leading two NIH funded projects to leverage asynchronous Telehealth technologies to improve evidence based treatment dissemination and practice.
