Jason Kanz was born (1972) in Oostburg, a small community in Eastern Wisconsin. Upon graduation, he earned bachelor's (Psychology, Northwestern College) and master's (Community Counseling) degrees before completing his PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa. Though his doctorate is in the field of counseling psychology, his postdoctoral residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin solidified his eventual career in clinical neuropsychology.
The convergence of neuropsychology, spirituality, and a love for the aesthetic contribute to his writing style. His first project, Soil of the Divine (2017), is a series of poems written out of a thirst for wholeness. His second project is an edited book, Living in the Larger Story: The Christian Psychology of Larry Crabb (2019), released through the Gideon Institute for Christian Psychology and Counseling. In 2020, he released Notes from the Upper Room: Lessons in Loving Like Jesus (as well as an accompanying devotional), which explores the final conversation Jesus had with his disciples before his crucifixion. His most recent release is Letters to the Beloved (2021), a devotional commentary of the entire New Testament.
He now lives in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
