Edward Nugent

Edward Nugent is the author of the novella, No Escape. His creative nonfiction has appeared in Literary Orphans and Hippocampus Magazine.

He has always been a resident of the American West, living the bulk of his life in Colorado and most recently in Baja California Sur Mexico. These are grand, dynamic landscapes that beg for exploration, where humans live on the margins of powerful natural forces which lock themselves into every aspect of a life spent with them.

Since childhood, he has been a compulsive reader which led to undergraduate and graduate degrees in literature and a more formal understanding of storytelling as art.

Practicality led him to a law degree and a career as a criminal defense lawyer. In those years he became fascinated with the stories of the individuals he served. Who, by and large, lived on what most would consider the margins of mainstream society. Entrusted with their stories, his job was to tell those stories in a compelling way that resonated with others, so rather than being categorized by the crime they were accused of committing, each person could be seen human beings struggling, and sometimes failing, to make their way in an indifferent world.

His writing explores life at the margins—the margins of the natural world and the margins of the social order. Through his storytelling, he tries to explore life on those margins.
