The Other Side of Burnout: Solutions for Healthcare Professionals
Shaun J. Gillis, MD, received her undergraduate degree in microbiology in 1990 and her master of science degree in microbiology in 1993, both from Montana State University. She worked in molecular biology for two years, then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine completing her medical degree in 1999. She completed residency training at the University of Rochester and began practicing general obstetrics and gynecology in Bozeman, Montana, in 2003. She has a particular interest in improving the quality of life for women with pelvic prolapse and urinary incontinence and has done additional training in that regard.
Dr. Gillis has been active in organized medicine, including being a delegate from ACOG to the AMA and serving on the board of trustees and executive committee of the Montana Medical Association (MMA). She served as MMA president 2012-2013. She remains active in the state obstetrics and gynecology association, currently serving as chair. She is also chair of Save the Mothers – USA, helping decrease maternal mortality in Uganda and eastern Africa.
Dr. Gillis has been married to her husband, Rick, for 26 years and has three children: Ian, Avery, and Eric. Their family opens their home to those in need, so there are often more than five people at the dinner table. Her other interests include kickboxing, reading, hiking, and camping in addition to being involved in her children’s activities.
Dr. Gillis enjoys public speaking and, along with Dr. Wolf, has developed a workshop for helping physicians find their alignment.
