Ian Coubrough was born in Barrhead, Scotland. He immigrated to the United States with his family aboard the Queen Mary ocean liner in 1954. Ian taught school in New York City, in Connecticut, and overseas for the Department of Defense schools in Okinawa, Philippines, Italy, and Germany. He wrote The Spirit of the Rising Sun for his family and for all military children stationed overseas. He is proud to have worked with these amazing children who have had the opportunities to explore the world and its diverse cultures.
Ian’s first book, "The Spirit of the Rising Sun" takes place in Okinawa, Japan. Readers, ages 8-14 will identify with the diverse characters and the fast-paced action as Phoenix searches for the family of the soldier who lost his battle flag during WWII. This book won first place in the Royal Palms Literary Awards Competition in 2018.
His second book, "The Secret of the Rice God" is currently a finalist in the Florida Writer’s Association writing competition.
