The first time Anthony Hewitt ever put pen to paper, he was in third grade, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK and his adventure story written in one of his exercise books – with text and drawings – was doing the rounds through the primary school ranks, causing a bit of a furor. The story eventually went on to get a gold star from his headmaster, who recommended he tone down on the implied sex and violence next time.
Soon after, his parents who had lived in England for 25 years decided to go home to Jamaica.
Anton’s true adventure was just about to begin.
He absorbed the island completely. Its customs, superstitions, language, music, people and with the enthusiasm only a budding young observer of human nature could.
Louise Bennett - Miss Lou - one of his earlier influences, helped to mold his uniqueness. She was a Jamaican author, who popularized the mythology of West Africa in the guise of the spider God Anancy and was the first person to express Jamaican patois - Jamaican dialect – in written form.
Anthony would use this in all his work.
With his passion for science fiction, adventure, horror and crime fiction. Coupled with an unhealthy obsession with genre cinema and TV. You have the eclectic style of Anthony Hewitt in a combustible nutshell that he likes to call Urban Fantastic.
Anthony lives in the multicultural city of London and hopes his unique voice will put a new spin on YA stories. Filling them with diverse characters, unfamiliar cultures, and adventure. He hopes he can excite and thrill a growing fan base around the world.
