Darl Dinger was born on July 9, 1937 in Annapolis, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1977, retiring as a Sergeant First Class, having served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He subsequently earned his bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and security from Jefferson Technical College, graduating first in his class and cum laude, and went on to serve as a police officer and deputy sheriff for twelve years thereafter. He accepted Jesus Christ and was born again in November of 1982. Shortly after Darl accepted Christ into his life, God’s Holy Spirit began to inspire him to write poetry concerning his Christian faith and life. Today, Darl takes care of his wife, Barbara who is on dialysis in their home in East Springfield, Ohio.
Louise Carter, with whom Darl co-authored his three books of poetry, was born February 28, 1926 in Gem, West Virginia, and died on July 24, 2014. She served as a nurse’s assistant at Ohio Valley Hospital and Nursing Home for a number of years and was married and raised several stepchildren.
Darl and Louise met in church a number of years ago and became friends when they discovered that they shared a common interest in writing poetry regarding their shared Biblical Christian faith. Darl and his wife, Barbara, cared for Louise for the last ten years of her life. Louise always told Darl that someday he would have a book of his poetry published and she asked him to include some of her poems in it. Darl promised he would. But frankly, Darl never dreamed he would have a book published. Today, that dream of Darl’s and Louise’s is now a reality.
