In early sixties I was a very bright student. Then in the Spring of 1963 my world was shattered, when my mother died of breast cancer Almost over night I was uprooted from my home in Utah, to moved in with my Aunt, who was food faddist(in the 60s that was the term for who believe in a Natural Foods lifestyle) in California. 6 months later my dad tried to commit Suicide. His Soul-mate was gone and the pain was too great. He ended up in Sanitarium. All they did was keep him drugged. After he was released and we moved back to Utah. This once bright student was was just doing okay in school now. After some testing. I was now classified, minimal brain disordered. It is now called ADHD and probably PTSD because the definition has been expanded to include emotion shock or loss and not just trauma. 1962, one of the lead articles in the Journal of the American Medical Association was titled the,'The Nuts among the Berries', An article about food faddists. This ingrained in me, the thirst for knowledge about health and psychology. Fast forward to 1988, I was working for Bright Day Health Foods, the health store I grew up out of. This is where I meet Wayne Garland. He would come in and eat at our lunch counter. We would talk herbs, health and nutrition. In the 9 years I was there I soaked up to much knowledge and meet so many teachers and mentors (Ron Teeguarden, Roy Upton, Jeffrey Bland, John Douillard, Shawn Talbot, Mark Hyman and more). Over next 14 years I worked for 3 more natural food markets, and a vitamin company as a research assistant. Here at Body As Doctor I develop products and consult with customers on their lifestyle and health. After years of mentoring, classes, certifications and studying, I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach and Functional Nutritionist.
