M. R. Davenport (Matt) was born in a small town in Northern California. The home he grew up in was not unusual or strictly poor. But life wasn't all roses either. His father worked in saw-mills and factories, eventually going into business for himself. The struggle was not that bad, but extras were mostly unavailable. He has fond memories of Christmases and Easters as a young boy. And Jesus was always a part of the life at home.
He joined the US Army not long after high school as a Military Policeman. With a desire that he would work in law enforcement as a career. After the Army, things did not go as he had planned. Getting into full time police work would prove more difficult than he thought. Two years after he separated from the service, he met a lady and, eventually, they were married.
The couple had three kids that he calls, "Part of why I exist." He began to drive truck for a living, not being able to get into full time law enforcement. Driving truck for various companies over 20 years, he finally took a job driving that allowed him to be home every night.
The pastor of the church they attended became ill and suddenly passed away. He had been helping in the leadership and the organization it was affiliated with asked him to take the helm temporarily. That temporary position lasted almost nine years.
The church was in a rebuilding program that became more than they could bear and the organization closed the doors. Matt and his family were forced to move out of the area. They landed in Central Missouri. Times became really hard for them. He returned to school to get his degree in web design, but other circumstances created more and more difficulties. Finances became the final straw and his wife asked him to leave.
But, as he puts it honestly, "Finances didn't destroy my marriage. My addiction to pornography did." Matt is very honest about the allures and difficulties created by porn. "It is very much like a drug. And not something a person can just walk away from. Especially in this day and age where it is so accepted and so easily gotten."
In that place, where he had lost everything, he found the faithfulness and the love of God. He has been homeless, financially stripped, deathly ill and crippled, and, literally hoping to die. "God closed all doors except one. I stepped into that one and saw that God was not only not finished with me, but had amazing plans for me. Still!"
And from all of that grew a blog and, eventually, the book, "Crazy Amazing Love: 31 Pieces of Love" and the series he is writing. Which will include the 12 subjects of "Love, Joy, Faith, Hope, Grace, Peace, Mercy, Blessings, Trust, Truth, Holiness, and Salvation." He is also working on several books that will include spiritual parable-like writings and more under other pen names.
As of September, 2018, he will have "Crazy Amazing Love: 31 Pieces of Love", "Crazy Amazing Love: 31 Pieces of Joy", "Ketchwood: Curse of the Everstone", and "Hutch" available for purchase. Either here on Amazon or directly from the author. You can connect with him through his website, mrdavenport.info.
His current projects include an espionage/crime drama called "Blaqwatch" (which is actually in editing now), an allegory entitled, "My King," a compilation of short stories based on Proverbs called, "The Solomon Files," and number three of the Crazy Amazing Love series, "31 Pieces of faith."
He now lives and writes full time in Albany, Oregon.
