Susie H Baxter

Baxter's PUMPING SUNSHINE won First Place in Published Memoir in the 2018 Royal Palm Literary Award (RPLA) competition.

A fifth-generation Floridian, Baxter grew up on a small farm near the Suwannee River. In adulthood, she found herself in the Midwest. For more than a decade, she served as an acquisitions editor and publisher for a health-science publishing house in St. Louis, where she commissioned dozens of successful clinical reference books authored by world-renowned physicians.

Back in Florida, she served for several years as creative nonfiction editor of Bacopa Literary Review, a publication of the Writers Alliance of Gainesville. She encourages ordinary folks like herself to write about their lives, believing that everyone has a story to tell, a point she drives home in the classes she teaches on memoir writing at Santa Fe College in Gainesville. She spends most of her time writing at her home in Alachua County and on the farm in Suwannee County where she grew up.
