Kristi Godwin is a South Georgia native who has been an avid reader and writer since age nine. She had a life-long desire to become a counselor in order to work with abused and neglected children, and attained degrees both in Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy toward that end. She worked for a decade with children and teens who were in the foster system, had a history of abuse and trauma, or were involved in the legal system in some way. During this time she founded a non-profit geared toward mentoring at-risk youth in order to help them pursue their dreams and goals in life, rather than being overcome by their circumstances and perpetuating the cycle of poverty, abuse, and addiction. Though she won writing contests as a child, had a column in a local paper, and had other publications (including White Anti-Racist Role Models at age 17), her writing took a back seat to her work with children for many years.
Dr. Godwin continues to work as a licensed therapist in private practice. She is a passionate lover of animals and people and strives to do as much as she can to help make the world a kinder, more loving place. In an effort to facilitate others' personal growth and healing journeys, she has created a series of guided therapeutic journals designed to be a tool for therapists and clients to use together in therapy. She has also created a series of therapeutic children's books to help children and parents understand and cope with various issues (ADHD, Anxiety, OCD, ODD, Dissociation, Parental Conflict, etc). The Benny and Friends Coping Skills Toolbox is her most recent book. She is currently working on a novel, and intends to devote much more time to her love of writing, so look for more publications soon!
