Gregory Fried

A baby boomer, attending college in the 60's, training as a surgeon at Bellevue Hospital in New York City during violent times, I became a police surgeon in 1980. My Memoire, Life on the Thin Blue Line encompasses experiences in surgery, the world of medical care, and inside observations and shared experiences in the New York City Police Department at a time of high crime and attacks on police officers. Present personally at many landmark events, including Times Square New Years on Y2K, Pope visit, and shooting of police officers, I was also a first responder on 9/11. Buried under Tower 2 upon its collapse, I narrate the personal events of that day and my personal story of survival. I also give insight and follow-up as the post 9/11 events unfolded.

I share stories of the NYPD and the operating room since (as they sing in the show Hamilton) I was "in the room where it happens".
