Thomas Cox

Thomas P. Cox is a son of the Midwest, transplanted to Virginia. He is Navy veteran and has spent time working in a steel processing center at night to finish college, as a school teacher, and as a health educator for an HMO. He also worked as a physician and hospital risk management consultant for a medical professional liability company, as a claims manager for a surplus lines insurance company, as a captive agent for a medical professional liability company, and since 2000 has been an independent insurance agent.

While teaching Cox was also a football coach (high school) and basketball coach (middle school to the collegiate level). He has a B.S. in Health Education, minor in psychology, from George Williams College, now part of Aurora University, has done graduate work in both public health and education, and earned his Associate in Risk Management designation from the Insurance Institute of America.

He is married with three children from his starter marriage, two step-children, one grandson, and five step-grandchildren...although the grandchildren don't know the difference, so let's just say he has six grandchildren. No pets. As of the writing of this biography he is upright, above ground, and still taking solid food; everything else is details.

He has had articles published in such diverse publications as the "Virginia Dental Journal," "Physicians and Computers," the "Forum Newsletter of The Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions," "Virginia Medical Quarterly," the "Journal of Humanistic Education," " Scholastic Coach," and "Athletic Journal." He publishes a monthly newsletter on risk and insurance topics and was a contributing writer for MD News in Virginia.
