He is the founder of The Recovery Letters project which publishes letters from people recovering from depression, addressed to people experiencing it.

The book was selected for World Book Night 2018 and as a Reading Well title in the same year. Cosmopolitan magazine named The Recovery Letters as 'One of the 12 mental health books everyone should read'.

James has been published in thirteen different countries and in numerous languages worldwide.

He lives in Hove, East Sussex in the UK with his husband and emotionally damaged rescue cats. He likes yoghurt, a lot. He writes and speaks about depression, anxiety, grief, stress, self esteem, mental health and mental illness.
