Gale Smith is a graduate of Eastern Washington University, and an accomplished graphic designer, illustrator and artist. She serves as the Art Director for Rising River Media.

Gale’s passion for art began at a very early age creating pictures with various tools such as crayons, drawing pencils or watercolor. Her parents and teachers recognized and encouraged her passion along the way. She remembers well, at a young age she received a Jon Gnagy drawing kit for her birthday. He had his own television show and Gale spent hours drawing along with him as he demonstrated how to first begin with drawing rectangles, ovals, cube and cone shapes and then making them almost magically transform into a landscape or still life!

Through the years Gale experimented with a variety of mediums and enjoyed them all. A few years ago, she discovered the joy of working with chalk pastels. She appreciated the medium's flexibility, and the quick results it can produce. She complains some about the mess that chalk leaves behind but what medium doesn’t?!

Recently, Gale felt a growing desire to write and illustrate a children’s book. Her passion for art, her experimentation with chalk pastels and her desire to communicate the beauty of God's Kingdom came together in a two-year writing and illustrating project. The end result of that project is Alex's Amazing Kingdom Adventure, a wonderful full-color book for pre-teens, filled with 21 original pastel-chalk illustrations. Gale was born in Idaho and grew up in Eastern Washington. After graduating from Eastern Washington University with a BA in Fine Art, she spent several years working as a graphic designer where she learned to combine fine arts with graphic design in a wide range of projects including logos, brochures, newspapers and book covers.

Gale resides in Spokane, Washington with her husband, Maurice, also an accomplished author. They have two adult children. Together they coordinate Rising River Media, a non-profit Christian publishing company, on-line at risingrivermedia.org. Gale serves as the company’s Art Director
