Subhomoy Bhattacharjee with 24 years of experience in journalism is Consulting Editor for the Business Standard newspaper, India’s most admired financial daily. His areas of interest include public policy especially regulatory issues on finance and energy.
He is the author of "India’s Coal Story", published by Sage in 2017. The book based on two years of research traces how India’s coal reserves were the lifeline that fuelled the British Empire in Asia. And yet today this industry is on the verge of collapse. The mineral was at the centre of a major political scandal that nearly sent a prime minister to jail. It explores why since Independence, Indian business and government could not settle the rights of energy security, creating the murky politics of coal--& finally forced India to engage in a rivalry with other powers on seas, to secure its energy security.
