Elliott Parker Ph.D

Elliott Parker is professor of economics at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), where he has made a home since 1992. He earned his doctorate at the University of Washington, and has taught comparative and international economics, and the principles of microeconomics, to many thousands of Nevada students. He has served as coeditor of the China Economic Review, president of the Northern Nevada International Center, chair of the faculty senate, chair of the Department of Economics, and director of the university Core Curriculum., He is currently associate dean for undergraduate programs and administration in the College of Business, and a member of the Advisory Council for the Kenny Guinn Center for Policy Priorities. He has two children from a prior marriage, Reuben and Maya, and he married Kate Marshall in 2014.

Kate Marshall is the former State Treasurer of Nevada. She was first elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. Kate grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in a working class neighborhood. Kate Marshall worked her way through high school, college, and law school. She joined the Peace Corps and served with distinction in the Department of Justice. Kate then became Nevada's Senior Deputy Attorney General under Attorney General, Frankie Sue Del Papa. As Treasurer, she has been credited with improving and implementing programs that have saved millions in taxpayer dollars, reducing spending by making government more efficient, and identifying innovative methods for increasing economic development for Nevada. In addition she has created one of the nation's first statewide college savings program, College Kick Start, at no expense to the taxpayer. Kate’s record has always been about helping Nevada families with pocketbook issues.
