James E. Dobson

James E. Dobson teaches at Dartmouth College and is the author of The Birth of Computer Vision (Minnesota, 2023), Critical Digital Humanities: The Search for a Methodology (Illinois, 2019) and Modernity and Autobiography in Nineteenth-Century America (Palgrave, 2017). He is also the co-author of Moonbit (punctum books, 2019), a creative and critical exploration of the Apollo 11 Guidance Computer (AGC) code and Perceptron (punctum books, 2025), a creative-critical reading of Frank Rosenblatt and his invention, the perceptron. He conducts research on U.S. intellectual history, autobiographical literature, nineteenth-century American literature and culture, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computational methods.
