J.D. is a former weekly columnist for an upstate New York daily newspaper.

He first wrote The King and His Belly Button years ago. The original version was a six page hand written story that had an original concept, but was placed on a shelf as life decided to turn his attention to other things.

Years later and at the suggestion of one of his sons and the support from the other, J.D.sent his manuscript out once again. This updated story was a far cry from the original version.

There are five King and His Belly Button books in the series, and the updated editions are illustrated.

The 'King' series is non-political, and doesn't lecture. It is a funny and charming children's book series between the unusual friendship between the King and his belly button, who runs around trying to keep the King out of trouble. Each book introduces at least one new character, including a witch who is also a part-time pirate, some dinosaurs including one made out of metal, the cats of the kingdom, and a BIG chicken that is so strong even his feathers have muscles. There is also a magician in the tent in the woods who is up to something besides performing magic tricks..

The books are entertaining and safe for kids to read.

In 2024 a compilation book was published that included all five of the 'King' books into one volume.
