Sheila Leirner was born in Sao Paulo. Art critic, writer, journalist and independent curator, she lives and works in Paris since 1991, acquiring French nationality. She completed her studies in France and in 1975 became art critic in the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo. Author, co-author and organizer of a dozen of books, she has published numerous presentations, essays and articles in newspapers, magazines and in national and international supplements.
Member of juries and guest lecturer in Latin America, Africa, USA, Asia and Europe, she was the General-curator of 18° and 19° International Biennials of Sao Paulo (1985 and 1987) and a member of ICOM (International Council of museums).
She received the prizes "Best Art Critic in Brazil" (AICA/ABCA - 1976), "Artistic Personality of the Year in Latin America" (AICA/AACA - 1987), Homage as “Critic of the Year” (AICA /ABCA - 2009), "Prize Mário de Andrade”, for her trajectory (AICA/ABCA - 2014) and the decoration Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres from the french government.
