Michael J. Ostwald

Professor Michael J. Ostwald has a Doctor of Philosophy (1998) in architectural theory and history and a Doctor of Science (2007) in computational and mathematical analysis. Michael’s academic appointments include being Dean, Associate Dean and Professor at multiple institutions including the University of New South Wales (Sydney), University of Newcastle (Australia), Victoria University Wellington and University of Hong Kong. Under the auspices of a Byera Hadley international fellowship he completed Post Doctoral research at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montreal) and the Loeb, Harvard (Cambridge, Mass.). He has held research fellow and visiting positions at MIT (1997), Rome Academy (1998), CAD Barcelona (1999), RMIT (1999-2015), UCLA (2001), ANU (2005) and the Universitą di Pisa (2018), amongst many others. Michael’s more than 430 research publications include 16 monographs and 15 edited books. In 2009 he was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship and in 2016 he was awarded the Australia–Korea Council international fellowship. Michael Ostwald is Co-Editor in Chief with Kim Williams of the Nexus Network Journal: Architecture and Mathematics (Springer, Nature) and on the editorial boards of ARQ (Cambridge University Press) and Architectural Theory Review (Taylor and Francis). He was previously co-editor of Architectural Design Research, a Contributing Editor to Architecture Australia and the Architecture Bulletin and a Contributing Writer to Monument and the Architectural Review.
