Nancy Niemi is an educator, author, researcher, and passionate advocate for gender equity. Over the course of her career she has been a Professor of Education at several institutions, an elected school board member, and a middle school English teacher. Niemi has overseen the development of new degree programs and curriculum, and has worked with teaching colleagues as they develop effective and innovative ways to impact students' learning. She is the author of articles on a wide-ranging number of equity-focused subjects, such as how teachers are depicted in children's books, why new teachers must teach controversial subjects, and how high school civics teachers encourage and deflect discussions of politics.
Above all, Nancy Niemi’s commitment to educational and social equity is woven into all her work with universities across the country, and in her continuing research and publications. She currently works at Yale University as its inaugural Director of Faculty Teaching Initiatives in the Yale Center for Teaching & Learning.
