Liz is an author who loves to paint with words, leaving colourful pictures of our world on the pages of her books and in the minds of her readers.
Originally inspired by the Celtic myth the Voyage of Bran, this imaginative children's book, A Fantastic Journey, was influenced by the history, volcanic landscape and animal life of Gran Canaria where she lived for many years. Ben's home in the story exists in reality as Guaydeque, a huge complex of inhabited cave houses which are one of the island's national monuments.
But not all of the geological wonders in the story are found in the Canary Islands. Some, like the subterranean lagoon Ben encounters on his travels, were inspired by other places such as the Caves of Drach in Majorca.
The picturesque English village where Liz now lives and its spooky, but fascinating Gothic churchyard are the background for her next book due to be released in October.
