Captain a Kent Smerdon

Kent Smerdon was born in Toronto in 1950 and was introduced to flying as a youngster by his father, a WWII RCAF veteran Harvard instructor and Mosquito fighter/bomber pilot. His interest in flying led to joining the RCAF in 1969 and a remarkable career in aviation began. Qualified on over 18 different aircraft types and their variants over 37 years in pro aviation, Captain Smerdon has flown from supersonic fighters to the Airbus to Boeing 747s with helicopters, a vintage bush plane and VIP Challenger business jets in between. The spark for the book began with tales from his father and the notion that along with his own experiences, some form of history, memoir or legacy should be created. Combined with Smerdon's own experiences from a wide variety of flying and the contributions from several colleagues, the book was started and published in April 2017. He has accomplished a rare achievement; a book about flying that highlights the people that have shared that world with him.

Captain Smerdon retired in 2010 after 31 years with Air Canada. He lives in Barrie Ontario with Liz, his bride of forty five years.
