After teaching genealogical principles to graduate students preparing to become librarians, archivists, and curators at UCLA, John decided to devote his efforts full-time to researching his own family lines in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey as well as back across the Atlantic to the Netherlands, England, Scotland, and German. His first efforts were to edit autobiographical works of his father, John Senior, and mother, Hope (see Lulu Press). More recently, he just finished a work on his German emigrant family, "Die Weber Familie: The Weber, Wollenshlager, Habermann, and Kempf Families in Early 19th Century Palatine Germany, Brazil, and the USA" (ITA Press, 2019).
