About the Author
Bob Muladore began his police career in June of 1976 with the Bridgeport Township Police Department in Bridgeport, Michigan. As the first full-time patrolman and with no police academy training behind him, lessons were learned “on the fly”. The author would like to thank Chief Louie Robinson for giving him his start in the sometimes mysterious career of policing. He also wishes to thank Dave Heterick, the part-time Bridgeport Township police officer who taught him the basic skills necessary that allowed him to safely negotiate his first 14 months of policing with the township police department that allowed him to go home each night to his family. Without Dave’s early guidance, the author’s life might have been much different.
The author spent 25 years with the Michigan State Police initially assigned to the Northville Post in Northville, Michigan, where he learned the methods of effective patrol and investigation. State troopers in Michigan handle most of their own investigations unlike many other police departments where the road officers turn over many, if not all of their cases, to the detectives. A great deal is learned from handling an investigation from beginning to end. Other troopers, post detectives and local police officers generously shared their knowledge along with the State Police crime lab personnel in helping the author learn how to effectively perform his job. Investigative skills were honed to a fine edge, but it was the people skills that were learned and refined that became an indispensable tool in his array of options to effectively deal with the variety of situations thrown at him on a daily basis.
While working as a trooper, the author attended the Detroit College of Law in the evenings, (now Michigan State University School of Law in East Lansing, Michigan) earning his Juris Doctorate Degree (commonly known as a law degree). That knowledge greatly assisted him in his career with the MSP. He instructed criminal and civil law courses to MSP, local and tribal police officers for over 18 years. He rose through the ranks in various positions including, the Uniform Division, Training Division, Narcotics Division, Executive Division, Fire Marshal, and Technical Solutions Division before retiring from the department, having attained the rank of Inspector. He maintained a steadfast goal of working to assist others rather than seeking personal gain or recognition.
Upon retiring from the MSP the author earned his Ph.D. degree, in Public Affairs and Administration, from Western Michigan University. He was certified as a public safety officer and worked with the Northern Michigan University Public Safety Department providing legal training to police academy recruits. Tuebor is the author’s second book, the first being a criminal law overview that was used by police academy students in Michigan. He is currently working on a book about his work as an attorney.
