Why would I write a book on understanding women? Part of it was to save my fellow men from great pain. I grew up in an estrogen challanged home. Growing up with four brothers and no sisters, I had no idea what went on inside of the mind of a women. Which made marrying one rather scary.

As a newlywed, I realized that many men were in the same boat. They wanted to be good husbands, but the learning curve was so high. I read every marriage book I could get my hands on and noticed most relationship books were incredibly long, hard to implement, and written for women.

The second motivation for the Womanual was that I wanted to help my fellow guys follow God’s command in I Peter 3:7 to dwell with our wives according to understanding. After working in youth ministry and the pastorate for nearly a decade, I realized that most problems in a young person’s life or a church stem from poor marriages. As I researched, I found that a great many men truly loved their wives, but few were actively trying to understand them.

I watched as many marriages either broke up or stagnated, because they did not know how to communicate with each other. Times of communication turned into times of frustration, until finally one or both parties simply gave up.

As I counseled and observed, I realized that a huge factor in most failing marriages was that couples talked too much and understood so little. The problem wasn’t in simply talking more, but truly learning how to understand each other.

Most men assume that woman cannot be misunderstood, and many women assume men can communicate but choose not to. The truth is many men cannot understand women, because most men have not had an opportunity to have female communication explained to them.

It is my hope and prayer that the Womanual will help men learn about their wives so that God can be magnified in the closest of human relationships.
