Jim and Shirley Carroll were missionaries in Kuwait when the Iraqis invaded in August 1990. For five months, the Iraqis held Jim trapped in the American Embassy in Kuwait. Shirley was back in the US for surgery for one of their children. She had to remain in the US, and she was stuck with no money to care for their seven children. Faith in Crisis tells this true story.

Jim and Shirley now reside in Augusta. Jim is a Professor Emeritus of Neurology at the local university. They now have eight children, 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
