Edvard Julius Solnes was raised in Akureyri, Iceland. He studied civil engineering in Reykjavik and Copenhagen, where he received his doctorate at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 1966. He became a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik in 1972.
Dr. Solnes has had a long and varied professional career with emphasis on the assessment and mitigation of natural disasters ─ earthquakes, storms and volcanic eruptions ─ environmental impact assessment, and green energy application. He has also had an extensive political career and became Iceland’s first Minister for the environment in 1990. In this capacity, he was responsible for the first steps leading to Iceland’s participation in the UN Framework Convention for Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol.
His Kindle publication “Climate Change: Cause ─ Consequences ─ Mitigation” is the result of many years of studies of climate sciences journal articles and books.
