Susan Mortweet Vanscoyoc

Dr. Susan Mortweet Van Scoyoc is a board-certified, licensed psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience supporting the mental health needs of children and families. She worked for over a decade at Children's Mercy Hospital in the Kansas City area, serving children with and without medical conditions. Currently, she is practicing at Pediatric Associates of University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.

Dr. Van Scoyoc is also a best-selling author for the American Psychological Association, sharing her research-based and clinical knowledge about effective mental health treatments with parents and professionals. Her co-authored textbook, Treatments that Work: Empirically Supported Strategies for Managing Childhood Problems, is used by professionals all over the world. She is also the co-author of Parenting that Works: Building Skills that Last a Lifetime, a book for parents looking to build confidence in their child-rearing skills. That book is translated into at least four languages, encouraging parents across the globe to focus on the skills their children need to reach their potential.

Dr. Van Scoyoc's most recent book, Navigating Negativity, was inspired by the many children she sees in her practice who default to negative thinking when faced with daily stressors, big and small. She has dedicated her career to helping parents and professionals reduce the impact of pediatric emotional problems and give kids a fighting chance at the courageous future they deserve.

Dr. Van Scoyoc is married with two children. Like most parents, her children are teaching her as much, if not more, than she is teaching them about just what a kid needs to succeed in today's world!
