I spent 10 years in the Navy as a photographer. My assignments included photographing military ceremonies, public affairs events, broken parts, crashed jets, spousal abuse photos, crime scenes, and everything in between. Serving on a base with 10,000 sailors, anything is bound to happen, and it did!
After the service, I worked at Showboat Casino in Atlantic City as a Blackjack and Poker dealer. That was a fun job, but the schedule was horrendous.
Many years later, I enrolled at Stony Brook University as a non-traditional student to earn my B.S. in Business Management with a Minor in Writing. While attending Stony Brook I got the idea for my children's book, and I began to write.
I am not an expert in ADHD. But as the parent of a young man with it, I wrote the character of Josh from the heart. I remember the arguments we used to have regarding meds and I know the side effects. I also know that meds are not for everyone, but I witnessed first hand how much they helped my son.
I was on the receiving end of bullying for a few years. I only wish I'd had someone like Marin standing up for me when I was in middle school....
It has been a long journey, but the quest isn't over yet. Book Two in the series is underway.. Stay tuned...
